Cooking For The New Year
When you realise that Rosh Hashanah is fast approaching, the first thing one does is panic!
This could mean that Yom Tov is 3 months away or a week away. Regardless of whether you are Type A or B, there is this pressure when it comes to cooking for the new year.
Our aim is to assist you with tips in making your next Yom Tov easy and stress free.
Sometimes, yes you do have to calculate oven and fridge space but let’s do this all without the stress.
Keep it simple.
This should be your motto always. Every time you want to over complicate it, remember that Sam & Sous says to take it down a notch. Simple does not mean you can’t be creative. Instead of trying to overachieve rather pick 5 dishes you are confident at and one dish that you would like to experiment on.
Write it down.
Keep it old school. Grab a notepad and get jotting. Write the meals you are hosting and the guests you plan on having. Then create your menu and put together a shopping list of ingredients. All of this can be done long in advance.
Don’t reinvent the wheel.
Balance out your menu with dishes that cater towards everyone. Plentiful salads, carb dishes and proteins. This way if a guest comes who is vegetarian, they can still enjoy a variety of other options alongside your regular offerings. And the best bit... you didn’t spend time in the kitchen making stuffed capsicum for one person.
Yom Tov cooking is supposed to be fun and filled with memorable dishes that were passed down in your family. Don’t turn it into a competition with your friends. Keep your focus set on the simple ideas and you will see, it will be a beautiful and meaningful holiday.
As always if you do need the team at Sam & Sous to take care of your cooking, we are always here. Please book in with us well in advance as we book out quickly.
